"I had just finished school and with the money saved from a few jobs, I bought a sewing machine and two rolls of fabric. My father, despite wanting to see me in a suit and tie working for some construction company, gave me a tremendous encouragement. He rented a space, as seen in the logo, on Eng. Frederico Ulrich Street, in Maia. The agreement was as follows: I would pay the rent for a year. If at the end of that year I was able to continue the business, it would be my responsibility. If not, I would close it and look for a job as an engineer. The first sails I made were for Windsurfing. Then came these for the Snipe class. I wanted to make sure they all came out exactly the same. I had to make molds. I searched for materials and was recommended some hard plastic sheets with a thickness of 2mm. I bought them with what little I had left in my account. When I got to the sail loft, I realized that cutting them with scissors was going to be almost impossible... But I had no alternative, it was either that or nothing... It was a tough week. Eventually, the blisters that had formed on my hands burst, and they were bleeding. But I'd rather suffer from my hands than from my pride. I had to show that I was capable. Even today, when I look at our Snipe sails, I remember that black scissors and the yellow plastic..."
